My Journey
I started video editing in 2020 because I had always dreamed of creating my own YouTube channel. At the time, I was editing entirely on my phone using free software that was easily accessible. My focus was primarily on gaming content—especially Fortnite, which was at the peak of its popularity. The game's thriving community gave me countless opportunities to improve my editing skills and learn from other creators.During this period, I began exploring different editing software and techniques. With nothing more than YouTube tutorials, experimentation, and lessons learned from my own mistakes, I gradually developed the skills that shaped me into the editor I am today. In 2021, I decided to establish myself within the Fortnite editing community. I created the online identities Jxseph and later JxsephVFX. Growth was slow at first since I was a new face in the community, but as my skills improved, so did my recognition. Eventually, I built an audience of over 1.2k+ followers and became fairly well known within the local Fortnite editing scene.During this time, I also had the opportunity to work as a video editor for several gaming organizations, including:Infernal Esports (Philippines)
Team Vivid (Philippines)
HVN Esports (Southeast Asia)
Next Fortnite (Japan)Toward the end of 2023, I had to step away from editing to focus on my studies as face-to-face classes resumed. Balancing academics became my top priority, so I significantly reduced my editing workload. Even then, I never completely stopped creating. Since my classmates already knew I had experience in video editing, I was frequently assigned editing and multimedia responsibilities for school projects, allowing me to continue practicing my craft.By 2024, my schedule became more manageable, giving me the time to further develop my skills. I spent countless hours studying new editing styles, learning additional software, and expanding my understanding of motion graphics. It was during this period that I realized video editing wasn't just a hobby—it was the career I genuinely wanted to pursue. This marked the beginning of my new identity as Sef. Alongside video editing, I also began learning graphic design after being recruited as the Publications Officer for my school's club, a role I held from 2024 to 2026. That experience strengthened my design skills and taught me how to create visuals that communicate effectively across different platforms. In 2025, I was invited to join the creative team of Yunhaverse Philippines (YVPH), where I continue to contribute today. Working with the team has allowed me to gain valuable experience producing short-form advertisements while exposing me to new editing styles and workflows.Today, I continue to pursue video editing with the goal of one day becoming a filmmaker or creative director. I am an incoming Bachelor of Multimedia Arts (BMA) student (Class of 2030) while also working as a freelance video editor. Every project I take on is another opportunity to learn, improve, and move one step closer to that dream.
